The Color Code feature in IDpack allows you to categorize records in Producer by assigning colors, names, and optional background images to different groups. This feature is especially useful for managing access levels, roles, zones, departments, teams, or event categories.
The Color Code tab is available only when Color Coding is enabled in the Project Settings.
Each color code can include a color, a display name, and a custom badge background image. When double-sided printing is enabled in the project settings, separate front and back background images can be configured.
Fields
- # – Displays the color code row number. Row 0 is reserved for the default background image.
- Color – Select the color associated with the color code. Click the color box to open the Color Picker, or enter a Hex Color Code manually, for example FF8000 for orange.
- Color Code Name and Background Image – Enter the name displayed in Producer and configure optional front and back background images for that color code.
- F – Expand or collapse the front background image option for the selected row.
- B – Expand or collapse the back background image option for the selected row. This option is available when double-sided printing is enabled in the project settings.
Default Background Image
Row 0 is used for the Default Background Image. This background is used when no specific color code background image is configured, or when a record does not require a custom color code background.
If double-sided printing is enabled, you can configure a default background image for the front and the back of the badge.
Important Notes
The background image is added when the print preview is built. It is placed as the bottom layer of the badge design, and all other objects from the design are printed on top of it.
Do not add a background image directly in the badge design if you want to use color code background images. A background image added in the design may cover or override the color code background image.
If you need a default background image, configure it using the Default Background Image row in the Color Code setup.
Customizing Color Codes
You can define up to 15 color codes. Each color code can include a color, a name, and optional front and back background images.
To configure a color code, enter a name in the description field and select a color. To add a background image, expand the F or B option for the row, then upload the image for the front or back side of the badge.
Click the x on a row to clear that color code information. Empty color code rows are skipped in the drop-down menu in Producer and other areas of IDpack.
Content
The Color Code feature can be used in several ways:
- Color Code Background Images – Change the badge background image based on the selected color code.
- Color Areas – Display rectangular shapes or visual indicators filled with the color associated with the selected color code.
- Text Values – Display the color code name on the badge, such as Manager, Volunteer, Security, or VIP.
Example Use Cases
Color code background images are useful when badges need to look different depending on the selected category. For example, a sports event could use a different badge background for athletes, staff, media, volunteers, and security. The back of the badge could also display a different map, schedule, access instructions, or zone information based on the selected color code.
For access control, color codes can represent different clearance levels or access zones. For example, Manager, Security, Volunteer, Exhibitor, and Warehouse can each have their own color and background image.
You can also simplify a project by using only a small number of color codes, such as VALID and EXPIRED, while leaving the remaining color codes empty. Assign green to VALID and red to EXPIRED. In Producer, when a cardholder access must be revoked, select EXPIRED and save the record. The next time the card is scanned, the status appears as EXPIRED in red.
