Section 3: The Interface
- Input Section
- Left Side: The application’s icon. Clicking it reloads the page.
- Main Part: QR code data is entered in the input field labeled “Scan a QR CODE.”
- Right Side:
- ENTER Icon: Forces the app to send the info from the input field. This is useful when copying/pasting QR code data from other sources (e.g., Teams, email, SMS).
- Profile Picture: Displays the logged-in user’s profile picture or a default icon if no picture is available.
- Main Body
- Records status: Active, Inactive, or Trash. The deleted record will display as “Record not found.”
- Photo ID
- Color Code
- Check-in/Check-out status
- Display Card Issuer Info:
- Project Title
- Organization Name
- Organization Phone
- Organization Location
Additional fields defined in the Project Manager (e.g., First Name, Last Name, Title, Email). The completed list of available fields is here.
- Toolbar
- Clear: This clears the main body without reloading the page and focuses on the input field. It helps maintain privacy and reduces screen brightness for discretion at night.
- Check-In/Check-Out: Updates the record status if enabled in Project Management.
- Log In/Log Out: Log in to IDpack Checkpoint to access records locked behind a login for more security, an activity log with username, and check-in/check-out records if enabled.
IDpack Checkpoint features a user-friendly interface divided into three main sections:
This section displays information retrieved from the scanned QR code. All the fields can be added/removed from the Project Manager.
Section 4: Three different ways to use IDpack Checkpoint
- Scan the QR Code:
- Use your device’s native camera .
- The camera will open the URL in a browser and load IDpack Checkpoint.
- Behavior-Based on Settings:
- If the Check-In System and Must Be Logged-In features are disabled, the record displays immediately without login requirements, offering a simple setup.
- If either feature is enabled:
- iPhones:
- Using the default Safari Browser: When an Apple device scans a QR code, it typically doesn’t maintain a session, meaning the website or app it links to will open in a fresh state each time you scan the code, effectively losing any previous login or session information because the native QR scanner opens links in a separate web view that doesn’t share cookies or session data with full Safari browsing sessions; this is a known limitation of Apple’s QR code functionality. The workaround, after scanning a QR code and getting the “You must be logged in to view this record”, tap the Safari icon in the bottom-right corner to reopen the URL in Safari and preserve session data.
- You can switch your default iPhone Safari browser to a different one (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, etc.), and the login session will be kept.
- Android: Each scan opens a new browser tab but retains session data for logged-in access, which is excellent. We recommend using the Google Lens app; it is better than the built-in QR code scanner; the session data are kept and will not open a new tab each time.
- Session information and cookies are small pieces of data stored on your device by websites or applications to enhance your user experience. Cookies, in particular, are commonly used to manage your login status, preferences, and activity during your session.
For example, when you log in to a website, a cookie is saved on your device (like your phone or computer). This cookie acts as a digital “key,” allowing the website to recognize you without asking you to log in again during your session. If you delete these cookies, the website can no longer recognize your session, and you’ll be logged out automatically. - Set Up the Application:
- Open your browser and visit IDpack Checkpoint.
- Add the app to your device’s home screen:
- iPhone: Tap the Share icon and select Add to Home Screen.
- Android: Tap the three dots and select Add to Home Screen.
- Set Up a Bluetooth Scanner:
-
Obtain a Bluetooth-enabled scanner (e.g., Zebra 2D Bluetooth Scanner).
- Pair the scanner with your smartphone via Bluetooth.
- Terminator Setting: Add Carriage Return (On)
- Keyboard Language Setting: Set the barcode to use the same keyboard language as the mobile device (English by default). For example, if you read a QR code with an English keyboard and your device is French, you will get garbage in the input field.
- iOS System HID Virtual Keyboard Setting (On): When the barcode scanner is paired with an iPhone, it replaces the keyboard. This means the iPhone’s on-screen keyboard won’t appear. Turning this option ON will allow you to double-click the barcode trigger to show the iOS keyboard. When the scanner goes to sleep, the keyboard will automatically return.
- Bluetooth HID Transmission Speed: When reading QR code, if you see your device can’t follow the input flow, lower the transmission speed. Checkpoint can take it, but your device can’t.
Refer to the scanner manual for advanced settings. Each barcode reader is different, so read the manual to set up the device correctly. We recommend looking for four setups, but they might not be available or called differently depending on your model.
- Start Scanning:
- Open the IDpack Checkpoint app.
- Ensure the “Scan a QR CODE” field is focused and begin scanning your cards. It should be focused by default.
- A Bluetooth QR code scanner is effective in various lighting conditions, including low-light environments. However, it requires carrying an additional device alongside your smartphone.
- Set Up the Application:
- Open your browser and visit IDpack Checkpoint.
- Add the app to your device’s home screen:
- iPhone: Tap the Share icon and select Add to Home Screen.
- Android: Tap the three dots and select Add to Home Screen.
- Start Scanning:
- Open the IDpack Checkpoint app from your Home Screen.
- Ensure the “Scan a QR CODE” field is focused and begin scanning your cards. It should be focused by default.
- Combines rugged design and superior performance in all environments.
- Eliminates the need for external devices.
- Offers a compact, all-in-one solution comparable in cost to a smartphone.
Below are three methods to use IDpack Checkpoint. For the best experience, we recommend a Mobile Computer with a built-in scanner or a Bluetooth QR code reader paired with your smartphone.
1 – iPhone/Android with the built-in camera
-
You can use your iPhone or Android device’s built-in camera to read IDC QR codes without installing the app. However, this method has limitations, reading the QR code can take longer, and it is not recommended in low-light conditions.
What is session information or cookies?
2 – iPhone/Android with a Paired Bluetooth QR Code Reader
Enhance scanning efficiency by pairing your smartphone with a Bluetooth QR code reader and using Checkpoint as an application on your phone.
Note:
3 – Mobile Computer with a built-in QR Code Reader
We recommend using a ruggedized Mobile Computer with an integrated QR code scanner for maximum efficiency. This all-in-one solution eliminates the need for external devices and is the easiest way to use Checkpoint.
Why Choose a Mobile Computer?
