The Template Editor in IDC is a powerful and intuitive tool that allows you to create and customize professional templates with ease. Whether you’re starting from scratch by selecting a badge format or customizing an existing template from the library, the editor adapts to your skill level and design needs. For a faster and more efficient workflow, we recommend cloning a library template and tailoring it to your specifications. With its flexible design tools and industry-standard features, the Template Editor offers endless possibilities for creating high-quality, personalized templates.
To incorporate text into your designs, use the Text tool. With support for [shortcodes], you can dynamically integrate database fields into your text, enabling advanced customization. This functionality allows you to concatenate text, add prefixes or suffixes, format addresses, and much more. For example, entering [firstname] [lastname] in the Content field will display Steve Smith using data from your record. While the Dynamic Text tool remains available for backward compatibility, [shortcodes] are the recommended method for optimal flexibility and ease of use.
The Template Editor is also ideal for printing static badges where dynamic information is unnecessary, such as database fields, photo IDs, or unique barcodes and QR codes. For instance, you can design the back of a card with general information, print a batch using a K panel, and then re-insert the cards into the card printer to print dynamic content on the front. This workflow lets you combine static and personalized designs seamlessly. Once your badge is ready, use the Print Preview option in the tool menu to review your design before printing.
